Vacancy Publishing Coordinator / Editor

Vind hier de vacature in het Nederlands.

Onomatopee is an exhibition space, publishing house and RISO workshop in Eindhoven with a focus on visual art and (autonomous) design. We provide a stage for progressive makers with an experimental mindset. We give creatives a chance to showcase their work and share insights with peers, with visitors to the project space, and with an interested audience.

Onomatopee’s activities are built around three pillars: Public, Publishing and Print. The Public pillar includes a visually engaging programme of exhibitions and lectures, while the Publishing pillar adds a theoretical layer through our critical publications. The Print pillar, our RISO workshop, offers makers the space to experiment and produce, with their unique perspectives contributing to our thematic narratives.

In the coming years, Onomatopee will work around the theme lines Folklore & Critical Research, The Future Commons and Systems & Territories with three up-and-coming curators. Each will create exhibitions for the project space, and will produce publications that reflect on their exhibitions.

We are looking for a Coordinator and Editor to further grow the publishing branch. In this role, you will contribute to the development of our publications and strengthen the connection between our exhibitions and theoretical reflections.

Profile:

  • You are a connector and know how to involve, enthuse and keep the book creators— including the author, graphic designer, editor, proofreader, etc.—on board.
  • You have commercial qualities, insight into the book industry and you understand creative makers.
  • You have the ambition to strengthen or expand Onomatopee’s position as a publisher.
  • You are fluent in English – preferably also in Dutch – and have a good feeling for language.
  • You have experience in producing publications and/or relevant work experience at a publishing house.
  • You have a good eye for design.

Your tasks include:

  • Reviewing and selecting book proposals together with the Director and/or a selection committee.
  • Annual planning of publications and budget (with Financial Manager).
  • Contacting authors, distributors and representatives and feeding them with relevant information.
  • You expand and maintain Onomatopee’s book and publisher network.
  • You provide colleagues and partners with relevant information for communication and distribution.
  • You write grant applications for book fairs and publications and process them independently.
  • You are Project Manager / Editor in the realisation of new publications.
  • Represent Onomatopee at (international) book fairs (at least 3 times per year).
  • You can work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are open to feedback, but can also follow your own vision well.

What we offer:

  • A challenging role.
  • Friendly colleagues.
  • The possibility to  do some of your work from home.
  • Access to our RISO workshop.
  • You will receive a copy of all publications.

Hours and remuneration:

The position is for 8 hours per week for coordinating tasks. There is also a compensation of 85 hours per publication for project management and editorial tasks (9-12 publications per year) and an allowance for attendance at book fairs. The position is on a freelance basis with remuneration of €45 excluding VAT per hour and travel expenses. As the organisation grows, we expect this position to grow in hours as well.

To maintain a good ratio of working time to travel time, living in/around Eindhoven is an advantage. On Mondays, the whole team comes together, so you are expected to be present for 4 hours on this day. The remaining hours can be freely divided over the rest of the week.
