Gijs Gieskes creates light and sound devices: sculptural yet autonomous in its auditory and visual presence, whilst functioning as a semi-finished appliance. He programs with open source software and puts the little machines together with low-tech electronics and waste material. The ingredients are widely recognisable: a leg of a chair, the base of a radio-controlled car, a Coca-Cola can. This game-like system suggests a world of endless possibilities. It creates an intriguing production setting and a fascinating visual story. Some of the works can be controlled by the visitor: for instance the Analogue Hard Disc, which generates sound by using the reader as speakers. The visitor influences the sound by using the Hard Disc itself.
